The Call

We all know I'm going on a mission... hopefully anyway, if you didn't know, suprise! Anyway last sunday my dad came home from church and told me that the bishop said that my call would be here monday or tuesday... what a shocker, I honestly wasn't expecting it to come that quickly. So monday rolled around and no letter...tuseday no letter... wednesday... where was it? I was starting to get a little anxious that it wasn't here yet, I want to know where I will be for the next year and a half of my life. Thursday came and there was no word in the morning from the post office so I once again figured it wouldn't be here and then my mom called at noon and said it had come. So I left work early, took the weekend off, packed up my bags, and drove straight home to wait for a whole 24 hours for my family to finally get there.

Friday... dad golfing, sisters coming from work, it nearly killed me with anticipation, but I finally got to open my call Friday night at about 6ish. SO I'm going to Mesa, Arizona and will be serving at the temple visitors center there. I will be reporting to the MTC on Februrary 11 and I will be speaking broken spanish... or in other words English and what ever spanish I can pick up. I am so excited and can't wait, what an amazing opportunity and I get more and more amazing stories of the mission every time I tell someone where I'm going. I feel as though it is a truly an inspired calling and finally I know where I'm supposed to be.

When Were Old

Ok so my friend Katie Jo and I were doing some research for our wicked "research project", imagine that. Anyway we got online and found this amazing picture... and who did it remind me of? Oh that's right Marcie Glad check it out. So in other words i believe this is marcie when she gets old and I might say that she is the cutest old person that I have ever seen. I love you Marcie!

Chinese Acrobats

So last weekend was great, my friends and I decided to go to Chinese Acrobats, can you imagine anything cooler? Well if you haven't seen them you probably can, but let me tell you it was probably the most amazing thing I have ever before seen. I have never seen 10 people on one bike or a man make a tower of chairs as tall as the stage and balance on them with one arm. So great! We also got taken to dinner by my friends dad, yeah for dads and free dinner.
Since I haven't posted in a little while let me tell you a little bit of what's going on in my life. First, I am still contemplating the date in which I should leave for my mission. I have currently redecided to go in January, it just makes more sense. I'll keep you updated though this is like the never ending question of all questions so I'm sure i'll still be working on it for a while. I also dropped accounting, kinda lame I know you don't have to tell me, but lets be serious I don't have time to try and learn accounting right now, so hopefully i'll get a chance to retake it upon my return. My friend Taylor Porter got engaged yesterday, which is a huge deal. One New Zealand girl down 27 to go. Also I bought a fish, her name is Shilo and she will probably be dead with in a week or so, but she is still darling while she lasts. Well good times I'll try and keep a better update on my life even though it's not that exciting it's fun to know. Arohanui -Megs

The song of the rising sun

Ok so this may be my second post of the day, but I have already accomplished my new thing of the day that I have to tell you about.

This morning I awoke at 6:00 and got ready to go to Utah Lake with my New Zealand/Polynesian Dancing friends. Our goal: Sing our hawaiian song as the sun rises in the east over the mountains and reflecting in the waters of Utah Lake and practice our dance for our test on tuesday. I'm pretty sure that we accomplished our goal. You can even ask if I will dance for you and you may be lucky!

After our beautiful morning of dancing we ventured to Shirleys Bakery, yum 30% day old cinnamon rolls! So two new experiences today and counting...

I took the challange

Alright, so my main goal in life is to live it to the fullest. Mainly I want to do things that are unique and will make my life full and enjoyable. So that is one of the purposes of this blog to show you all my adventures.

To start, yesterday Marcie Glad and I decided to take the challenge of adopting a disability for a day. At precisely 9:32 a.m. I met Marcie at the RB at the Disability awareness booth and we signed up to have a walking impairment (AKA we just really wanted to ride in wheelchairs.) So after we latched our backpacks to our chair on wheels, we headed to the top floor, via elevator, so Marcie could have her professors interview with Dr. Tanaguchi. After about 5 minutes we realized that this was not as easy as it looks, maybe we are a little weak in the arm area, I don't know.

After the fantastic meeting we thought it would be a good idea to head over to the Tanner building, little did we know that construction would completely prevent any progress to the next building, so we decided to take the big hill between the RB and the Tanner. Now I know what your thinking, that hill is about a 0.2 grade (almost flat), but when you are in a wheel chair things are much different. Not only was it uphill, but we had the disadvantage of a right side downward slope. So we inched ourselves up the hill laughing so hard we were almost crying. Finally... we made it to the top! YEAH! What usually takes about two minutes took us a half an hour and our arms were like jello.
Another goal of ours was to use the handicap toilet, which by the way you can only fit one wheelchair in one bathroom at a time. Also something we never thought of I'm sure you never thought of was what happens to your pants from the wheelchair to the toilet? How do you take them off? It seemed neigh impossible so we may have cheated just a little and used our little legs. Woops!

Anyway, the whole experience was amazing, I have never though about time restraints of using a wheelchair or the fact that in order to open a door you have to throw yourself into it. All I can say is as always I am grateful for life and the ability to have such amazing opportunities to learn.

P.S. The free t-shirt for the challenge was also a highlight of the day :)

The Mission...

Hi all, well I sort of started a blog while on my fantastic journey in New Zealand, but who wants to blog when they are in New Zealand? Apparently not me. So I thought I would give it another go. New Zealand was the best experience of my life so far; I made so many memories and friends, and took about 2,000 pictures in total, yep it's that amazing. So here I am back in the big US of A and things are great. The first month after I returned I didn't have a job, and then suddenly in one week I got two job offers one at the Comfort Inn in Richfield and I rejoined the great team at Pepperbelly's (kinda lame that I went back to the job I had in High School, but what do you do?). It was definately hard work, waitress by day and front desk clerk by night. Needless to say I had no friends and slept little to none some days, but it all came to an end when I once again returned to BYU.

I have currently been at the Y for about a year and a half and just recently discovered that I only have one more semester and I can graduate. AHHH! I am still studying Leisure Services Management, which is probably the best major at the Y. And to put off graduation as long as possible I decided to pick up another minor, what a procrastinator I am. So not only am I going to minor in business, I am also going to minor in Travel and Tourism, so exciting! It also gives me a billion options of what I can do when I eventually do graduate.

As one BYU student who as never really liked BYU I have had a wonderful semester so far. I have friends, most all of which are from New Zealand, big suprise there. I have awesome roommates, my ward so far seems to be good, and I only live about a half hour from my sister so I get to play with her frequently.

So this is the big test, if you have made it this far in my post you get the priviledge to know that I put my mission papers in. Yeah! I am so excited, but what an extremely hard decision. It has definately been a trial of faith for me. Initially I had decided that I would go in January, but further inspiration has shown that I will be staying until the end of the school year in May. Apparently I am where I need to be for now. Anyway that's just the beginning about me, stay posted. Arohanui -Megs
